What happened to Jason Garrett? Former Cowboys head coach finds his fit with Giants

  • Night net Cowboys Washington Football Team Giants Cowboys v Washington Football Team American Football Jason Garrett was a familiar face on Thanksgiving Day television screens for a long time, but in 2020, he'll be nowhere to be found. That's because the Cowboys moved on from Jason Garrett in favor of Mike McCarthy for the 2020 season. Dallas' meeting with the Washington Football Team for first place in the NFC East will happen without Garrett on the sideline. He's involved in that divisional race, too, now as the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants. And who knows, maybe the division will come down to a Week 17夜网论坛 meeting between the Cowboys and Giants, a revenge game for Garrett after Dallas beat New York 37-34 earlier in 2020. Here's a look at how Garrett wound up with the Giants after more than a decade as a coach in Dallas. Is Jason Garrett coaching this year?Yes, Jason Garrett is the New York Giants' offensive coordinator in 2020. It's the first coordinator role Garrett has held since 2010 in Dallas. It's been a struggle of a season for the New York offense, although how much of that can be pinned on Garrett is debatable. Second-year quarterback Daniel Jones has been inconsistent, while star running back Saquon Barkley has missed most of the year with injury as the pass-catchers have been dinged-up, too.Through 11 weeks of the 2020 season, the Giants have the third-lowest yardage and point totals in the Night net. The bigger struggle has been passing the football, as even mostly without Barkley, the Giants rank 18th (out of 32) in the league in rushing yards. Jason LaCanfora recently reported that Garrett's tenure as offensive coordinator in New York could conclude as soon as the end of the 2020 season, writing that "a new offensive coordinator next season would not surprise several sources who know (Giants head coach Joe) Judge well."Why did the Cowboys fire Jason Garrett?Garrett and the Cowboys agreed to part ways in January 2020 after Garrett's 10th season as the head coach in Dallas. There hadn't been any deep playoff runs that owner Jerry Jones was likely hoping for. There was only one losing season in Dallas for Garrett, a 2015 in which Tony Romo's injury derailed the Cowboys. But a 2-3 record in the postseason wasn't good enough to extend his tenure past a decade, and the Cowboys brought in Mike McCarthy to replace him.Jason Garrett career coaching timelineGarrett retired from his career as an Night net quarterback follo[......]

Bears vs. Packers score, results: Aaron Rodgers lights it up, Green Bay defense shuts down Chicago

  • Night net 夜网论坛 Packers v Bears Bears Packers American Football The contrast between the Packers and Bears couldn't have been more stark through three quarters on "Sunday Night Football," as Green Bay dominated its archrival en route to a 41-25 victory.First, there was the quarterback play. Aaron Rodgers tossed a touchdown on each of Green Bay's three possessions in the first half and added another score in the third quarter. Mitchell Trubisky led Chicago to a field goal on its opening drive but followed that up with an interception and a lost fumble that resulted in a defensive touchdown for the Packers. He did manage to lead a touchdown drive to end the first half, hitting Allen Robinson for a 1-yard score. But then he tacked on another interception in the third quarter. He finished the night with those three turnovers.Night net PLAYOFF PICTURE: AFC, NFC standings in Week 12 Speaking of turnovers, let's look at the defenses. Green Bay defensive back Darnell Savage came up with both interceptions, one on a deep ball by Trubisky toward the end zone. The Smith brothers also came up big, with Za'Darius Smith stripping Trubisky and Preston Smith getting the scoop-and-score TD. On the other side, Chicago's vaunted defense gave up a season-worst 34 points to the Green Bay offense. The Bears' pass rush, normally led by Khalil Mack, couldn't even manage a single hit on Rodgers in the game.Trubisky managed to save face somewhat in garbage time with a pair of passing TDs to Robinson and David Montgomery, along with a 2-point conversion to Darnell Mooney to make it a two-score game. The final line for the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 Night net Draft: 26-of-46 passing (56.5 percent), 242 yards and three touchdowns. But those three turnovers all led to Green Bay touchdowns and proved too much to overcome.Rodgers, on the other hand, was much more efficient, completing 21 of 29 passes (72.4 percent) for 211 yards and four TDs to four different receivers. He probably could have put up much bigger numbers if Green Bay had continued to air it out in the second half, but the game was already won.The Packers (8-3) extend their NFC North lead to three games. The Bears (5-6) have now lost five straight and fall into a tie for second in the division with the Vikings. Both Chicago and Minnesota are a game back of the Cardinals for the final NFC wild-card spot.Sporting News tracked live scoring updates and highlights from Bears vs. Packers on "Sunday Night Football." Night net trade rumors: 15 players most likely to be traded at the 2020 deadline

  • Night net American Football The Night net's midseason trade deadline used to mean little with a limited number of minor deals being made. But in recent seasons, with blockbusters involving Jalen Ramsey and Amari Cooper and some other notable starters moved, it's become a truly open market, a little like March.LIVE: Follow every trade deadline update with SN's tracker In 2020 before Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. ET, several more players will be dealt. So far, on the marquee, the Ravens acquired Yannick Ngakoue from the Vikings, fresh off him being traded by the Jaguars in the preseason. The Seahawks got some needed pass-rush help, too, trading for the Bengals' Carlos Dunlap. Also from the defensive edge, Everson Griffen (Cowboys to Lions), Jordan Wills (Jets to 49ers) and Markus Golden (Giants and Cardinals) all have new teams. With a combination of buyers and sellers and teams looking to get something in return for pending 2021 free agents, the hot stove is staying warm with rumors. Here are 15 players who might be dressed up in different uniforms soon. The 2017 first-rounder, only signed through 2021 after the Browns picked up his cheap option, is looking for a more prominent receiving role. As an athletic target, Njoku would fit a team like NFC wild-card hopefuls Carolina and Arizona. Philadelphia also makes sense, too, with Zach Ertz on the shelf and wanting to keep 12 personnel strong with Dallas Goedert.John Ross, WR, BengalsRoss, 24, also a 2017 first-rounder has flamed out because of injuries and not being a reliable fit for their offense, showing not much more than fleet feet when healthy. He's superfluous in Cincinnati behind Tyler Boyd. A.J. Breaking down Tua Tagovailoa's first Night net start: Dolphins rookie takes it easy vs. Rams for first win

  • Night net Dolphins Rams American Football Tua Tagovailoa's Night net debut as the Dolphins' rookie first-round quarterback started off in disaster. It ended with an easy day at the office, resulting in the first victory of many to come in his pro career.Tagovailoa was strip-sacked on his first dropback — and Miami's second offensive snap — in Sunday's surprise 28-17 win over the Rams. He was quickly introduced to Aaron Donald, the league's best defensive player, who rattled him and forced a fumble. Instead of going downhill from the夜网论坛re, Tagovailoa, the No. 5 overall pick out of Alabama, got a huge break with shutdown cornerback Jalen Ramsey not playing because of illness. Tagovailoa got bigger breaks, with the Dolphins' defense and special teams combining for two touchdowns and setting up another from the 1-yard line. With a big 28-7 second-quarter lead, Tagovailoa wasn't called upon to do much. That Donald hit was the only sack he took, and he finished 12 of 22 for only 93 yards a touchdown. MORE: Dolphins' decision to start Tagovailoa is right, but timing is wrongThe completion percentage (54.5), yards per attempt (4.0) and passer rating (80.3) didn't really tell us much about Tagovailoa, as offensive coordinator Chan Gailey put his rookie into full checkdown and caretaker mode. Bottom line, the Dolphins just wanted to get to 4-3 with Tagovailoa taking over for Ryan Fitzpatrick. They took few chances, and the team failed to score any points in the second half. But when the outcome was still in doubt, Tagovailoa took care of what he needed to do. Following an interception by Rams counterpart Jared Goff, he enjoyed his best drive of the game that resulted in his first Night net touchdown pass.Tagovailoa showed some of his special qualities to end the first quarter on a three-minute, six-play, 33-yard march to the end zone. With Ramsey down, he threw a bullet outside to ancillary wide receiver Jakeem Grant for 15 yards, attacking Ramsey's replacement, David Long Jr. He did so again, firing a touchdown pass to top wide receiver DeVante Parker on a quick inside route.Welcome to the league, Tuanigamanuolepola Tagovailoa. @Tua ➡ @DeVanteParker11📺 @Night netonFOX pic.twitter.com/0eMVRfQQPr— Miami Dolphins (@MiamiDolphins) November 1, 2020Those were Tagovailoa's only completions to Grant and Parker in the game. He targeted nine receivers in all, with running back Myles Gaskin having a game-high three catches for 16 yards. Tagovailoa was asked to avoid taking any chances with deep shots, and didn't see any designed runs as Miami grinded with the lead. Here's why the Cowboys always play on Thanksgiving, explained

  • Night net American Football Washington Football Team Cowboys v Redskins Cowboys If it seems like the Dallas Cowboys always play on Thanksgiving, well, that's because they do.The Cowboys' annual tradition of playi夜网论坛ng on the American holiday, which began in 1966, originated as something of a publicity stunt for America's Team. Following the Lions' lead from decades earlier, the concept became an immediate success and the Cowboys have been a Turkey Day fixture ever since, with a few exceptions. Here's a brief history lesson, plus a full list of past games and how to watch the 2020 version while stuffing your face with turkey and pie.Night net THANKSGIVING PICKS: Straight up | Against the spread Why do the Cowboys always play on Thanksgiving? The Cowboys' tradition of playing on Thanksgiving started when then-general manager Tex Schramm signed up for the holiday game in 1966.Schramm sought more national publicity and saw Thanksgiving as a way to boost national attention from football fans in and out of Dallas. The Night net was worried about attendance for the game because the Cowboys had been struggling under head coach Tom Landry. Just in case no one showed up, the Night net guaranteed the Cowboys a certain gate revenue. It turned out the Night net had nothing to worry about. The Cowboys broke their franchise attendance record as 80,259 fans watched the team beat the Browns at the Cotton Bowl. The Cowboys have played on Thanksgiving every year since except two. In 1975 and 1977, the Night net awarded Thanksgiving games to the St. Louis Cardinals instead in an attempt to boost that franchise's national exposure. The Cowboys had been constant Super Bowl contenders, so the Night net wanted to give another team the chance to be broadcast on a national level. The Cardinals lost both games and the Cowboys reclaimed the tradition in 1978, sharing the day with the Lions.Detroit has first dibs with the early kickoff every year ar 12:30 p.m. ET, so it's custom for the Cowboys to play in the late-afternoon game that follows. In 2006, the Night net decided to add a third game in prime time, because why stop at just two holiday games?Who do the Cowboys play on Thanksgiving in 2020?The Cowboys draw the Washington Football Team this year. It's the 10th time in history these two franchises play head-to-head on Thanksgiving. Dallas won the most recent matchup in 2018, 31-23. In fact, the Cowboys are 8-1 all time against Washington on Thanksgiving. The only loss came in 2012.Washington is 3-8 all time in Thanksgiving games. What channel is the Cowbo[......]

Who will play QB for the Broncos? The most bizarre Week 12 emergency ideas, from coaching staff to Tim Tebow

  • Night net Broncos Saints American Football Denver is in the middle of a nightmare scenario ahead of its game against the Saints on Sunday.None of the Broncos' designated quarterbacks can play against New Orleans. Not starter Drew Lock, not backup Brett Rypien, not No. 3 Jeff Driskel, not practice squad veteran Blake Bortles — no one. Denver can't even sign a new quarterback from outside the organization to run its offense. Per Night net protocols, new players can't enter a team facility or start to practice until they test negative for five straight days. They then have to test negative on the sixth day with a point of contact test. So, who does that leave to take snaps at quarterback? MORE: Why the Broncos can't sign a new QB to play vs. SaintsBroncos coach Vic Fangio previously tabbed running back Royce Freeman as the team's emergency starter, but reports suggest practice squad receiver Kendall Hilton will earn the start on Sunday. He played three seasons at quarterback for Wake Forest. It's a fluid situation, one that could change series to series — or play to play — depending on how well either of those players perform. With that, Sporting News breaks down who might take over under center for the Broncos in a weird Sunday matchup against New Orleans:Who will play QB for the Broncos?Kendall HintonPer a report from Denver TV station K-USA, Hinton will earn the start Sunday when the Broncos kick off against New Orleans (4:05 p.m. ET on Fox). Hinton, the No. 31 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2014, played the position for parts of seasons at Wake Forest from 2015 to 2018. In 23 games, he completed 133 of 251 passes (53 percent) for 1,504 yards and eight touchdowns to seven interceptions. After briefly flirting with the transfer portal in 2019, Hinton, then a redshirt senior, transitioned to slot receiver, catching 73 passes for 1,001 yards. He went undrafted but was signed to the Broncos' practice team.Royce FreemanFangio has previously called Freeman the team's emergency quarterback, but it's curious how he came up with that designation. Freeman had only a single passing attempt in his entire collegiate career at Oregon, where he rushed for 5,621 yards (5.9 yards per carry) and 60 touchdowns from 2014 to 2017.
